PRESS RELEASE
PHILADELPHIA
ARTIST NOMINATED FOR AWARD
TAKES
VISUAL ART TO NEW FRONTIERS
When the
first ARTV Awards premiere in the fall, Philadelphia visual artist Irina
Datsko will be bringing the most contemporary tools for artistic creation
onto the national stage.
Datsko, a graphic designer and internationally exhibited painter, is
among 50 nominated artists whose work will be judged at the multimedia
awards ceremony in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Hotel, October 28-29.
Her "Dancing Orchids," a digitally edited photographic collage, stands
out in the "New Movement / New Medium" category for its use of computer
technology in conveying the artist's vision.
Trained extensively in the fine arts in her native Ukraine, Datsko came
to Philadelphia in the 1990s and graduated from the University of the
Arts, where she advanced rapidly into the digital medium. She is Senior
Graphic Designer and Creative Lead for GraphosArt, a graphic and Website
design studio in Center City Philadelphia.
While the tools she uses for her personal creations may be cutting-edge,
her inspiration and ultimate conception of her work remain rooted in
the best traditions of the fine arts.
"Art ... is about organization of color, lines, forms, rhythm, and compositions,"
says Datsko. "After being inspired, I choose the elements for the future
composition.... Retouching and adding graphics ... works like painting
on canvas."
Using her own photography along with software to enhance and alter elements
of each work, she created a "Philadelphia Collection" of pieces reflecting
the city's history and heritage, as well as her mysterious series on
orchids, many of which were photographed at Longwood Gardens.
Datsko is drawn to orchids because of their "static," long-lasting quality
- the sense of the eternal that surrounds them. "Orchids have fascinated
people since early times ... the symbol of love, luxury and beauty,"
she says.
Her imaginative renderings caught and held the attention of ARTV representatives
after an initial meeting at the New York Art Expo in March 2005. Soon
thereafter, "Dancing Orchids" was nominated for the ARTV Awards.
ARTV Inc. is itself a venture into new technological frontiers for showing,
recognizing and marketing today's fine art. Conceived and founded by
Audrey Roberts, who presented the first art television show to southwest
Florida in the 1990s, ARTV brings art collectors and artists together
through high-definition video and TV.
The red-carpet awards ceremony in Las Vegas - a city whose famous strip
was, Roberts has noted, conceived by artists - provides contemporary
visual artists opportunities for recognition and exposure similar to
those enjoyed by top performers.
Yet amid the technology, the human imagination and response remain at
the forefront, for Datsko and for those who view her work.
"I try to build excitement, raise emotion, make a statement," she says.
Her compositions are therefore well described as "choreographed shows
in a frame." _____________written
